User Review

I’ll not touch on the ingredient as it’s common in most pet shampoo products. Not natural or organic product. Aside from sunflower oil, the rest are pretty standard ingredients. Would love to see Disodium oleasmido MEA sulfosuccinate as surfactant in such products as it’s an even milder product and less likely to irritate skin or eye. Gave it a try with a full body wash after 2 weeks of no-bath, and after a swim.

Followed the instructions and applied without dilution. What was noticed during shampooing;

  • Though there were foaming, it wasn’t over-the-top type of foaming.
  • Easy to wash off ( Yes, it’s not a given in many shampoo. Especially using it without dilution)

Results after rinsing off

  • Fur were slightly coarse and dry-looking
  • Zero Fragrance ( As Advertised )

During Drying ( Zero hydrating spray or conditioner was applied )

  • It’s hard to comb through the fur ( Since i did not apply any lubricating agent )
  • Zero Fragrance
  • Average drying ( It’s raining, making it even harder to dry )
  • No sign of skin irritation ( Normally when you apply concentrated shampoo, you’ll expect to see some redness on the skin )
  • Fur falling into place very nicely

After Drying

  • Odor removed ( yes, I smell her butt yet again )
  • Fur feel smooth and soft, and really easy to brush through. ( Probably the sunflower oil doing its work )

Pretty satisfied with this shampoo. The end result is quite satisfactory, considering i did not use any conditioner at all. Suitable for weekly bath.

Update ( on 12/24/2013 ) : Some feedback after using it several times without conditioner. On my shetland sheepdog, the outer coat gets really smooth after drying but the undercoat, tail, butt fur ends up being too dry. Conditioning would be recommended. Tried it on maltese and schnauzer without conditioner, they are perfectly fine with absolutely smooth coat.

User Review

[I don’t normally do cleaning though] My mum said it smells good and cleans well. Got this product as I want no chemicals going into my dog’s body, orally or otherwise. Many chemicals in detergent are residing on the floor, and is also one of the concerns when dogs start getting skin issues since all these chemical are skin irritant. Used to use dettol and realized that phenol is not metabolize by many animals, especially cats and  could cause poisoning after prolonged oral intake ( Through licking ). Hence i would recommend go natural or, in this case, go for an enzyme based cleaning agent. Refer to the sources below on how enzyme based detergent works 😉 [ Studies on Phenol ]

User Review

If you’re still using chemical based, synthetic compound formulated repellent products, it’s time to make the change. BUZZ! pet spray, on the first look, has plenty of natural oils with insect repelling properties. The ingredient matches the product description well. It smells good ( subjective ) on my girl and seems to work really well keeping her ticks free ( We do heavy outdoor activities ). It’s rather long-lasting as I can still feel and smell the repellent after 4 hours. Doesn’t matt up the fur and it’s easy to brush her even with the spray on. Overall, it’s a highly natural product that’s even suitable for human use.

P.S The spray head is really wonderful.

Waterless shampoo

Waterless® SHAMPOO

Cleans without rinsing and is great for handlers when a full bath is unnecessary or inconvenient or for spot cleaning. Natural baking soda cleanses and deodorizes while mats and tangles rake or brush out easily. Natural cleaning agents speed grooming time and leave a soft, bright shine to all coat types. Removes stains and leaves no greasy residue. Contains no alchohol and is ready to use.

Personal take and review

Remember this product we bought 2 days back from The Pet Emporium? Today we gave this product an ultimate test. Removing dried poop off a dog’s collar. Yes I dropped poop on precious head accidentally and it stained her white collar. I was preparing to bathe her, then I remember about the product and gave it a try.The spray head died on me before I even use it once! Definitely didn’t give me the best impression I could ask for.I sprayed thinly on the affected area and started cleaning it off. I always thought waterless shampoo is a gimmick, it just mask the smell then actually doing the cleaning. But this product proved me wrong. The poop can easily be cleaned off and there’s no foaming residue left behind. Do I even need to mention that it smells heavenly? She regain her whiteness just within seconds, saving much of my time.
Now let’s take a look at the ingredients provided by Show Season.
Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamide MEA, Cocamidopropyl
Betaine, Sunflower Oil Triglycerides, Fragrance, DMDM
Hydantoin, pH Modifier. At A Glance…Sodium Laureth Sulfate – Surfactant with excellent foaming
characteristics. Low skin irritation making it suitable for mild
cleansing as well as baby products.

Our take: Although SLS is abstracted from coconuts, it is nothing but chemical and no where near being natural. Fairly common in all cosmetic products and shampoo for human and the increased use lead to its increased research on the potential side effects. No hard evidence that it’s carcinogenic despite the numerous claims. The cleaning ability of the surfactant is related to its ionic nature and chemical properties, not to anything about the coconut.

Cocamidopropyl Betaine – Provides good foaming and foam
stabilization with excellent wetting properties.

Our Take: Exceptionally mild coconut based surfactant commonly found in baby products and is largely regarded as a safe chemical. This ingredient has multiple functions, including being a counter irritant to sulfate surfactants, but it’s primary use in most formulas is for its foam building ability

Cocamide MEA – Enhances foam stability and viscosity response.

The amides are free of diethanolamine (DEA).

DEA, a highly possible carcinogenic chemical and highly probable skin irritant. No studies can conclude that MEA is carcinogenic but still list it under possible carcinogenic chemical due to its similar structure to DEA. MEA is also less of a skin irritant as compared to DEA.

Sunflower Triglycerides – Enhances our fragrance and provides
extra conditioning to the coat and skin. Botanically derived,
contains no animal based materials. The water soluble emollient
conditions the hair and acts as a fragrance fixative by encapsulating
the molecules and allowing a timed release. The overall benefit
is that the dog smells great for a longer period of time.

Our take: Fragrance value and skin protection, conditioner

pH Modifier – Balance

DMDM Hydantoin – Preservative

Impression of product: Formulated to avoid DEA, aside from that it’s no different from most pet shampoos on the market. Not your choice if you’re looking for natural organic pet shampoo. Interesting choice of fragrance additive [Sunflower Triglycerides]. Overall i would say it’s a good buy for quick cleanup of a soiled butt or dirty paws. Not recommended to use this to replace a regular bath or for wide usage.

Can i not grow up?

Sent to this world with my siblings with much trepidation. All being remembered was batches of people visiting me, with words of who he/she wants and how beautiful we are. Just after a month, i’m at a whole new place, without my mum. Here you are, with that wide smile of yours.

i grew up, with people complimenting every bit of me, applaud each movement and fed with tantalizing treats for everything i learnt. You patted my head when i first land my butt on the ground, and showered me with hugs and tasty treats. I was brought around, shown to many people who cuddled and praised me. It was a wonderful feeling.

For months, i have your undivided attention. Walking along with you has been the greatest feeling. I was tucked into bed by you after – what seems like – endless amount of  play. I wake you up when i had enough rest to a day of fun filled activities. You bring me around in that weird moving box that jerks, throwing me off balance every now and then but i know it would be fun at the end of it. I get to run in this boundless piece of land, play around with others though some don’t seems to share the same sentiment and shouted at me. You threw balls around, ran around with me and sometimes hide from me. I felt lost and anxious, but i know if i search hard enough, i’ll return to that warm hug of yours.

Time passed… time with you are seemingly shorter, we don’t go out often and i’m no longer getting treats despite performing whatever I’ve learnt. I asked for play, but all i got in return was a stern voice. I soon learnt that you just wanted me to wait, wait for the time to come when you would want to play with me. I lie flat in a corner, an obvious corner, a corner that’s just around you so if, if, you ever wanted to play, i’ll be there. Walks got shorter, play now a luxury, and the only attention i get is a pat on my head when you leave home.

Hours passed, you came back home. I ran up to you, i couldn’t hide how happy i am to see you back again, back to play, back for walk but it never happen. I know, i just have to wait, wait for that very moment where you want to play.

Lying flat on the floor, eyes shut. My life started with all the love from you. I think of your smile, your kiss, the endless play time and all the time together. I wished i will never wake up, waking up from this dream where, for once, i’m being loved again.

How’s your week?

Now that I’ve returned back to school, the days now seem to serve a less purpose than before. You, probably, have heard your working friends “celebrating” Friday (TGIF!) and wonder how a day could invoke such strong emotions. To me, a week can be full of Mondays… the most dreadful day. A day, to me, has some emotions attached to it and a set of behaviors or actions to adhere to.

On this particular day, you’ll roll over to the end of your bed after being jolted awake by the alarm, reached for that phone and looked at the time that you already know; for you’re the one who set it yesternight. You’ll snooze it for another 5-10 minutes then close your eyes, traveling back to the dimension where you have a, what seems like forever, battle with your inner self. Detached from the world, your inner self are giving you all reasons not to step out of the bed. He gave such convincing reasons that you decide to keep your eyes closed till… maybe your next bedtime. Snooze alarm came to your rescue, bringing you back to the real world and introducing you to your new enemy – morning erections.

It’s just amazing how time seems to fly when you’re rubbing your eyes, rolling around, kissing your bolster, scratching your butt cheek and poof!, 10 minutes past. You’re now closer to being fired or getting your self barred from examinations. It’s just amazing how quickly an erection can disappear. You rushed through everything; bathing, drying, grooming ( sometimes all at once ) in matter of minutes, thinking that breakfast would make you fat hence there’s no need for it, kissed your dog goodbye, cuddle a little… maybe a little more.. or maybe comb her fur..ahhh.. why not clean her bowl now and kiss her one more time before leaving home. You locked your door, open it to say one last goodbye and set foot for The Longest Day. Drifting off into auto pilot mode for half of the day, waking up considering whether you should have lunch or go back to the dimension to continue your debate.

And people, that’s Monday for you. A day with no light at the end of the tunnel.

Tuesday’s tunnel has a small opening to shine some light on you. At the end of the day, you’ll probably head for some exercise because it’s ladies’ Wednesday the next day and it’s always good to hit the gym in hope to inflate that muscle, at least for a day.

Wednesday is a joyful day, work or studies have decided to cut you some slack before it breaks you, and you’ll have enough time to hit up your friends for a good night out.

Thursday is the day of denial, it’s so close to Friday yet so far from you. You’re trying to cheer yourself up that Friday is coming tomorrow till the fact that Friday is a full day of working day hits that thick skull of yours. Head gets heavy, depression sink in and day gets longer.

Friday is the day of sin. People will work doubly hard that day ( work make time goes faster ) and release that beast of theirs to soak up all the blood.

Saturday, day of redemption. With all the sins you’ve accumulated from the previous day, you’ll go for a jog to shake off some imaginary fats of yesterday or meet up some friends.

Sunday, day of happiness. The day you wake up in the morning knowing what exactly is ahead of you. The day you’re out with your family and enjoying every minute of it. The day where you smile more than the 6 days combined. The day you hate to come to an end. The day that seems to go by fastest.

This week, i had 2 Sundays, 4 Mondays and 1 Saturday.

Now people… How’s your week?

Fun, by Choice

Looking out of the window, seeing everything blurred from the crazy downpour…

No one in the right state of mind would set out for a training out in the field under this condition.

No one, but us…

Without any hesitation, we head out for training with a flask of water, a ball and some durian cakes.

What greeted us was portholes of water and a field that could easily pass off as a swamp.

As though that wasn’t enough to dampen my mood, my dear O’ precious decided it’s the right time to not listen to daddy..

With her unleashed, she decided to run and greet everybody and ignore me. Tell me about Zero Recall…

“Go tunnel!” and she went to chase after Smash.

“Jump!” and she thinks the bird is asking for a chase game.

“Precious, come here!” and what i got in return was a chase game with her, me being the chaser.

What a good way to test my patience.

With all these, training can’t be fun if all i’m doing is chasing after her..

How can it be fun?! Looking at the ground, “shake head”, Turn back and saw my barking monster lunging,”shake head even harder”. Sigh.

It was then an idea struck me, if she can be crazy, why can’t i? Hahahaha

So i decided to initiate a (one sided) conversation with her whilst running the course!

“Ah-li-ba-ba, Jump!” “Hui Hui, table!” “Ah-li-ba-ba, let’s go!” Surprisingly, she listened!

It was during the run i realized, THIS IS FUN! So we ran the course like a loony!

Of course, she didn’t run the course well but i got a positive feedback from someone saying precious looked happy! 🙂

It has been quite some time since i hear that, because i have always been looking at the angst, anxious and all-time-crazy girl… How i love to the person that could bring her happiness each time we run the course. It is not easy, especially so during trials.

All this applies to many other stuffs in life; if you can’t change it, love and embrace it.

Learn to have fun! As easy as it sounds, doing it can be an uphill task.

Dangers lurking everywhere…

the safest is often the most dangerous…

20 months back was the day i always wish turning back to… for it was the day she didn’t have any problem walking, and i don’t have any behavioral issues to deal with. I could still vividly remember how i walked her around the neighborhood, while listen to those aunties articulating themselves rather loudly, ” eh lassie lei, cute hor.”  Ironically, my concern back then was also barking, but it was why is she not barking. Haha! A month later, she had her virgin bark and she hasn’t looked back since then! It was only when she was about 10months old then i brought her out for her first socializing trip, the sheltie gathering and found out she didn’t actually know her name. That marked the start of her recall training and more behavioral issues arise. Being a first time owner, many dealings with my dog were suggestion given by dog owners whom i have interaction with.

How to teach a dog to swim? Throw her into the pool… and of course, she developed phobia.

How to socialize a dog? Bring her to a park and let her interact. And she got herself ran over by a huge Labrador that has no regards for anyone else other than the ball thrown.  And she has another phobia to speak of.

My understandings were very much limited to what i have read on the internet without any hands on experience…

I got to know about ticks the hard way..

I pay countless of visit to the vet for laughable reasons: Pregnancy before her first heat? Loss of fur at her nose area?

But all these doesn’t compromise my training with her, for I want her to have the most positive training… like how you want the best education for your kids. I sought advice from people who have put in serious effort in training their dog, i bought and read up books before training on anything. I put restraining order on using of my dog’s name for it would setback my training if overused by my family. No reprimanding of my dog, and i had that strictly enforced. Of course, some rules were meant to be broken… such as, her name. It has been misuse countless time by my mum and i didn’t bother to correct her. She had bad recalls at home but i made sure it’s up to an acceptable standard outdoor.

and I’m supposed to talk about dangers… so where is it?

All these training does make it dangerous for the dog, as it makes the owner complacent. It is when you think the dog is well-trained that makes it dangerous for the dogs… I used to unleash her when i do training around my block and a moment of her not being able to recall stopped me from doing it. The last thing i want is to cause her death or her disappearance because I THINK she is trained. You can’t expect the world from your dog when you didn’t introduce the world to your dog… There are many uncertainties in this world, and for sure you wouldn’t be able to touch on all of them so keep your dog safe by your side would be the best you could do.

While i focused on her training on the technical stuff of agility and jumpers, i neglected much of her behavior of what it takes to be a good pet dog. She has leash aggression, food aggression and reactive towards moving objects. I do not joke about all these issues and neither should you.. For it will only get worse if you don’t touch on it. It doesn’t go away from age maturity and it is no laughing matter if your dog is the cause of any accident. So this little checklist i had, already had some of the issues sorted out…

Leash aggression – Checked

Reactive towards moving objects (on leash) – Checked

Reactive towards dogs and cats (on leash) – Almost there!

Food aggression – Reading in progress!

Working in dog-related industry definitely helped me here, not in training methods but in how i view dogs. I learnt to fear them! Previously, i would just touch any dogs without reading their body language and that isn’t exactly the right thing to do. Respect them and they’ll respect you.
